Gain Resources to Advance Patient Safety and Drive Improvement

The rules of engagement in patient safety have changed: patient safety progress has not kept pace with the increased complexity of healthcare operations, and what adequately enabled some progress in the past is no longer sufficient to enable it now. There is a persistent disconnect between patient safety efforts and clinical operations and traditional methods (HRO, Lean, PDSA) no longer feel sufficient in complex healthcare systems.

Beyond HRO participants will learn modern safety concepts, models, and tools best suited for driving improvement in complex operations. They will be able to employ these new skills in how they approach all elements of their safety programs. They will be equipped to adopt new safety elements, and to adapt or even abandon some old, less valuable elements.
Did you miss the last informational call? Watch the Recording & Review Slides.

Session Agenda

The Beyond HRO program blends expert faculty guidance with interactive learning and real-world application. Over 12 weeks, participants will explore new ways of thinking about complexity, address the persistent disconnect between safety and clinical operations, and practice applying resilience engineering principles to their organizations. Each session is designed to introduce high-level models and tools, challenge assumptions, spark fresh insights, and equip leaders with practical strategies that balance traditional methods with advanced safety science.

The agenda for this program is currently being finalized and will be shared shortly.

Quality Improvement Relies on Quality Measurement

Measurement lies at the heart of quality improvement (QI). Without the correct measurement tools, measure alignment, and clear operational definitions, QI professionals risk not only burdening their team with inefficient practices, but gathering poor data and drawing poor conclusions.

In this program, you will discover what quality measurement is and why it matters, how to set a clear and achievable aim, how to define a family of measures tightly linked to your aim, how to choose and collect the right data, and how to display and analyze your data in run and control charts to support improvement. You can bring your own improvement project or idea and apply course concepts, tools, and methods or choose from several case studies to use as you apply course learnings. You will benefit from online lessons, live webinars, case studies, coaching, and peer interaction.

For quality improvement professionals working to design a practical measurement system to monitor and guide improvement work, this course is the pragmatic approach to assemble a team, build a measurement framework, and analyze data for improvement.

Making the Case: Download the Justification Letter to provide high-level information on the Better Quality Through Better Measurement program to your leadership.

Session Agenda

The agenda for the September 2026 offering is now available to download:
