As part of a global learning network t​o combat burnout and increase well-being and joy in the health care workforce, ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​health systems tested and implemented at-scale strategies to drive meaningful and measurable progress to boost joy in work, increase staff engagement and productivity, and improve the overall quality of care and experience for staff and patients.

These examples describe the progress ​of health care organizations participating in the IHI Joy in Work Results-Oriented Learning Network to improve joy in work and well-being for their workforce.

Background

The IHI Joy in Work Results-Oriented Learning Network (July 2020–December 2022) was a collaborative of pioneer institutions committed to supporting workforce well-being and improving overall quality of care for staff and patients. The Learning Network focused on combating burnout at pace and at scale; provided improvement methods and tools for testing our way to solutions; created a learning system across organizations; and disseminated results and lessons learned.
