A novel Shewhart chart was developed to help health care leaders and frontline teams understand if day-to-day variation in COVID-19 deaths may be attributed to meaningful signals of change. The chart detected the start of exponential growth and identified early signals that the growth phase was ending, offering a practical tool to visualize and learn from daily reported deaths during a pandemic or an epidemic.
