In resource-limited countries, which have sought to care for complex and vulnerable populations for decades, relative underinvestment in health and social services has forced creative solutions to managing complexity. This article highlights five key ideas for "bidirectional innovation," gathered from the experience of health care providers and health system managers in resource-limited countries, that may have a meaningful impact on health care quality and safety if applied in resource-rich countries.
