Essentials for Improving Service Quality in Cancer Care

Berry LL, Mate KS. Essentials for improving service quality in cancer care. Healthcare. 2016 Mar 22. [Epub ahead of print]

Informed by site visits to cancer care centers and interviews with cancer patients, family members, clinicians, and health care leaders, the authors formulate six essentials for improving cancer care service quality. These essentials, expressed in the patient’s voice, are: work together and coordinate care; manage my symptoms and be there when I need you; involve and assist my family; minimize needless variation in clinical quality; offer the support services I need; and do not put my family in the poorhouse because I have cancer.
