Allergy information is important in preventing adverse drug events and must be available to anyone in the hospital who may order or administer medications. Within the hospital setting, a patient will often leave the patient care unit for tests and procedures or may be transferred to several different units during a hospital stay. Allergy information must accompany a patient to these different settings and be readily accessible to all caregivers who have contact with the patient.
Tips
- Provide allergy information in several places, such as on the front of the patient record and on the patient identification band.
