Profiles in Student Leadership

Here at the IHI Open School, we’re committed to helping today’s medical, nursing, pharmacy, health administration, and other allied health profession students develop a strong set of leadership skills. With generous support from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, we get to live out that mission each year at the IHI Open School Student Quality Leadership Academy.

The 2011 Student Quality Leadership Academy, held in Cambridge, MA, also gave us the opportunity to get to know some of the students and how they feel about leadership. Who inspires them? What do they think makes someone a bad leader? Can they define leadership in less than six words?

We sat down with six students – future nurses, physicians, and health care administrators – and asked them a few questions. Here, in videos that are about five minutes apiece, we present glimpses into the future of health care:
