Foundational Areas of Focus
We welcome submissions from across the entire continuum of care that reflect a range of patient populations, as well as emerging safety priorities such as inequities, climate change and other crises, and supply chain issues. Please select the foundational area that most closely aligns with your proposal. Within each foundational area, you will have the opportunity to note subtopic areas that best align with your content that will help us create a diverse and appealing program that represents the varied interests of our attendees.
Based upon session submissions, the final IHI Congress program will be crafted into tracks that best meet the needs of Congress attendees according to the strongest submitted content. Your submission may be considered for an alternate foundational area or a subtopic if the IHI Congress Planning Committee feels your submission is best aligned with another category.
-
Culture, Leadership, and Governance: The imperative for leaders, governance bodies, and policymakers to demonstrate and foster our deeply held professional commitments to safe, reliable, and equitable care as a core value and promote the development of cultures of safety.
-
Patient and Family Engagement: The spread of authentic patient and family engagement; the practice of co-designing and co-producing care with patients, families, and care partners to ensure their meaningful and equitable partnership in all aspects of care design, delivery, and operations.
-
Workforce Safety and Well-Being: The safety and resiliency of the organization and the workforce is a necessary precondition to advancing patient safety. We need to work toward a unified, total systems-based perspective and approach to eliminate physical and psychological harm and inequities and promote wellbeing to both patients and the workforce.
-
Learning System: Establishing networked and continuous learning; forging learning systems within and across health care organizations at the local, regional, and national levels to encourage widespread sharing, learning, and improvement of safe, reliable, and equitable care.
Additionally, with the support of the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, IHI is pleased to offer sessions that are focused on improving excellence in
medical diagnosis. If you are submitting for a concurrent sessions or Immersion Workshop that focuses on Diagnostic Excellence, please be sure to select this on your submission page.

IHI may, at its discretion, cancel, postpone, or otherwise modify in-person programs at any time, with or without notice. If IHI does so and as a result, a registrant is unable to participate in the program, IHI will refund the registration fee. The registrant, however, will remain responsible for other costs (such as travel and lodging) the registrant incurs in connection with the program, and IHI will not refund the registrant, nor otherwise be responsible for, such costs. Registrants should proceed accordingly and consider travel/lodging cancellation policies — as well as purchasing travel insurance — when incurring such costs. IHI asks registrants to take into consideration the currently evolving situation and advisories related to COVID-19 before incurring travel, lodging, and other costs related to this event.
