IHI is committed to partnering with foundations and other organizations to build innovative solutions to health and health care issues. Using our wealth of knowledge in improvement and renowned faculty working in various content areas, IHI can work with funders and partners to develop multidimensional initiatives with an impact on numerous stakeholders.

Examples of IHI initiatives:

  • 100 Million Healthier Lives: Largely funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation
  • Age-Friendly Health Systems: Funded by The John A. Hartford Foundation
  • The Better Care Playbook: Funded by six leading health care foundations — The Commonwealth Fund, The John A. Hartford Foundation, Milbank Memorial Fund, Peterson Center on Healthcare, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and The SCAN Foundation
  • Project Fives Alive! in Ghana: Funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation
  • Ethiopia Health Care Quality Initiative: IHI is partnering with the Ethiopian Federal Ministry of Health, with the support of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Margaret A. Cargill Philanthropies, on a multiyear initiative that began in 2013 aimed at creating a culture of quality throughout the Ethiopian health system and demonstrating the impact of a quality improvement approach to reduce maternal and neonatal mortality.
  • Pursuing Equity: Partially funded by the Rx Foundation and Bristol-Myers Squibb Foundation
  • Minimize Diagnostic Error: IHI partnered with The Society to Improve Diagnosis (SIDM) with funding from the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation to develop a theory of change to minimize diagnostic error.

Other funders have awarded numerous health care professionals and teams with financial support to participate in IHI Forums and other programming.
