Urinary Tract Infection Bundle Compliance Audit Tool

Saint Patrick Hospital and Health Science Center
Missoula, Montana, USA

This audit tool was developed at Saint Patrick Hospital and used once a week for all patients with a urinary  catheter in place. The goal is to evaluate compliance with their local urinary tract infection (UTI) bundle (i.e., recommended components of care that should be provided for all patients with a Foley catheter), and to reinforce mandatory education aimed at reducing catheter-associated urinary tract infection (CA-UTI).

Directions
Use this audit tool once per week to check compliance on elements of care for each patient with a Foley catheter. At Saint Patrick Hospital, all audit sheets are reviewed and data collected and fed back to nursing units, along with the bundle compliance and CA-UTI rates using National Healthcare Safety Network (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) criteria.
