Emerging HealthCare Communities (EHCCO)
Half Moon Bay, California, USA

This resource presents an overview of current "best practices" for creating conflict competent organizations, and includes a review of the literature and input from experienced professionals who provide training to health care organizations.

A conflict competent organization is described as one that:
  • Develops collaborative mindsets, common language, and cognitive maps for making sense of conflict;
  • Provides skill building and follow-up coaching to support integration and application of skills;
  • Develops conflict management processes that provide collaborative options to traditional adversarial options and support engagement; and
  • Establishes integrated, system-wide processes that constitute a strategically embedded conflict management program.
