This article describes the High-Performance Management System, a model developed by IHI to drive sustained value improvement using a clear rhythm of performance measurement and communication via huddles and visual management. Two pilot initiatives resulted in sustained, significant improvements in quality and value in two very different contexts — outpatient care in the US and acute inpatient care in the UK — through management interventions that resulted in significant cultural change.
