This driver diagram was developed as part of the IHI Perinatal Improvement Community. A driver diagram is a kind of tree diagram, a tool to conceptualize an issue and its system components that helps to demonstrate a pathway to achieve the desired outcome.
The Perinatal Driver Diagram presents four primary drivers for reducing perinatal harm (adverse events), improving care, and supporting healing:
- Perinatal Leadership
- Reliable Design/Reduce Variation
- Effective Peer Teamwork
- Respectful Patient Partnership
Background
Teams participating the IHI Perinatal Improvement Community are using the driver diagram in conjunction with the IHI Perinatal Bundles to improve perinatal care and reduce harm.
