10/22/2012 Update: We are pleased to welcome Pete Leibig, CEO, Clinica Family Health Services to the agenda. See the final agenda of the day.

It’s going to be November soon enough, and one thing is certain: regardless of the outcome of this year’s presidential and national elections in the US, change is on the horizon. Some health care leaders will wait for the dust to settle before taking action, but many more are eager to get out of the blocks and get to building the future of health care. At this pivotal juncture, the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) will convene thought leaders from health care, business, and politics to make sense of the moment and to lay the groundwork for positive change and possibilities.

Co-chaired by IHI CEO Maureen Bisognano, and IHI’s Board Chairman Dr. Gary Kaplan (Chairman and CEO of Virginia Mason Medical Center), and emceed by former Administrator of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, Dr. Donald Berwick, and Chief Medical Editor of NBC News, Dr. Nancy Snyderman, the day will begin with a moment of “improv” and fresh perspectives from our experts – they won’t know the script until two days before, when the election results come in. What will it mean if President Obama stays in office? How will the course change if Governor Romney is elected? What would be the impact of a Republican Senate and an Obama White House?

We’ll begin the day with former US Senators Tom Daschle and Bill Frist providing analysis on what just happened and the implications for health care, for recent reform efforts, and for the nation’s quality improvement agenda. Then we’ll hear from respected leaders from hospitals, health care systems, ACOs, integrated care facilities, physician groups, primary care, and the safety net.

We’ll identify the most pressing challenges for these sectors and consider promising approaches to meet those challenges. And we’ll tap into the collective wisdom of our audience – engaging you as active participants and collecting your views and insights throughout the day through polling and small group discussions.

A great event for leaders and their teams, "Out of the Blocks" will take place at a wonderful venue – Knight Conference Center at Newseum in Washington, DC, on November 8. Space is limited so be sure to register early.
