Last Modified: 12/11/2012

Out of the Blocks: An Action Brief for Health Care Leaders in the Post-Election Era. Cambridge, Massachusetts: Institute for Healthcare Improvement; December 2012.

This report summarizes and synthesizes the major themes from IHI's Out of the Blocks conference on November 8, 2012 — at which more than 100 health care leaders gathered, just two days after the presidential election, to discuss the results and what they signaled for the future of American health care.

Co-chaired by IHI CEO Maureen Bisognano and IHI’s Board Chairman Dr. Gary Kaplan (Chairman and CEO of Virginia Mason Medical Center), and emceed by IHI founder and former Administrator of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, Dr. Donald Berwick, the conference featured the insights of some of the nation’s foremost health policy experts, including Former Senators William Frist and Tom Daschle. Panelists from all corners of the health care world shared their predictions, insights, worries, and, ultimately, their hopes for health care in the years to come.
