Are you using the high/low ET tube for VAP prevention? What is your opinion of this method? It was originally included in the AACN recommendations. I understand the problems with earlier generations and wonder if anyone has implemented the latest version with success?

What portions of the VAP bundle are being used in pediatric and neonatal patients? Any specific info on oral care would be very helpful.

We have questions about the correct methods of holding the sedation (usually propofol) for the sedation vacation. How are other institutions performing the sedation vacation? Do you simply hold the sedation for a short period to assess?

Would anyone have information as to how you structured your routine ventilator orders? I am having a problem with getting physicians to agree on what they want and how they want it written. I thought if I could get some examples to show them, I could help to get them all on the same page for getting started.

In our facility we do a "wake up" with the diprivan. Usually cutting the dose in half and half again over a period of 5-10mins. Ultimately weaning the diprivan to off. During this time we perform a few neuro checks and will start the weaning process with the respiratory dept.

Does anyone have a standard order sheet they use for VAP they would be willing to share. Thanks, Kay Simerly, Patient Safety Coordinator

Thelma,
Did you ever get any feedback regarding order sets that would be helpful? We are at the same place, trying to devise an appropriate order set for VAP prevention. Would really appreciate it is you could share any samples you may have received.

anyone have some national benchmarks for oral care, suctioning, turning, HOB, etc. for ventilator pt.s all related to the VAP?
I have a PI project that is asking for the national benchmark for these indicators. Any suggestions.
Thank you in advance.
