Question: How is everyone addressing the sedation vacation when using intermittent sedation? Are you establishing a time frame to not medicate prior to SBT?
For continuous sedation - our vacation time is at 5am. The SBT's are conducted at 6am.

Appreciate yuor feedback! Jackie Munro

How often do you initiate sedation vacations? Daily or more often?

I did find an algorithm - although it is from another hospital and not from literature
It is developed from the ehad of anesthesiology and I think very applicable in the ICU setting
Can only send as an attachment so please respond if you would like to see it.

We are in the process of implementing the IHI vent bundle concept and have been researching sedation vacation concept. I would be very interested to see this algorithm. Please send it to sueellen10@comcast.net
