Does anyone have a plan to determine the competency of staff to participate in the RRT? Do you provide any special training besides ACLS/PALS? How about minimum ICU experience as an indicator. Anyone looked at AACN's ECCO program to "refresh" and focus on common body system diseases?
Please email me at Ed_Carter@Deaconess.com or edcarter@sigecom.net.
Thanks,
Ed Carter

Our RRT consists of the charge nurse in CCU, the respiratory supervisor, and the Patient Care Coordinator. Each of these positions requires a minimum level of competentcy. By default these positions require that the personnel have ACLS, critical care experience etc. We are currently putting our RRT members through ACLS-EP.

Question, does your charge nurse have an assignment?

RRT and staffing issues. How does your organization address staffing issues during RRT calls? Our hospital is currently piloting a RRT via our CCU. Respondents include a CCU RN, respiratory therapist, 1st year resident, shift director and additional ancillary staff such as lab, ekg, etc. We are experiencing some difficulty with staffing our CCU during times of RRT calls. We also cover code blues. Would anyone be willing to share how they handle these type of staffing issues? Please contact denise at deniseblackburn@comcast.net Your thoughts/ideas are appreciated.

I am looking for job descriptions for RRT members. We are specifically looking for requirements/competencies for a respiratory therapist and critical care trained RN. Please email any comments or copies of job descriptions to Michelle_Darnell@ssmhc.com

Is it generally assumed that Respiratory Therapists, and in particular those participating in Rapid response teams, should be ACLS certified? I would like to convince the powers that be to fund certification.

Hi Denise, we are experiencing the same issue. We are on our 5th week of the Rapid Response Team and we have some ICU nursing staffing issues also. I would like to know how your facility is dealing with the situation now.
Thank you!

Establishing RRT in small rural hospital
10/10/2006 11:23:44 PM
Hello....We have been trying to establish a RRT for several months. The big obstacle has been our staffing issues. Are there other small rural hospitals that have been experiencing this issue and if so have you resolved it? What about a policy to back the process? I am just looking around. Thanks for any help.
At this time the proposed arrangement would be to have the ICU Charge RN available with respiratory during the day shift and one of the ED RN's and the house supervisor for night shift to respond to any calls.
