The VAP bundle addresses ICU only, we have implemented this Bondle in our iintermediate units where we have vents also. Most of this patients are in the final stages of weaning from the vent, so some of our MDs don't agree that PUD is appropiate for these patients. So therefore we are having poor complinace with the bundle. Any one having similar problems?

the IHI worksheets point us to work towards the right direction,
u don't have to stick to these typical checklists.
i guess u can use ur own, even modify them adding more aspects which we might have missed.

Yes, but I think with this becoming part of our 2009 JCAHO Patient Safety Goals in NC, this will help us tremendously.

Has anyone done any research with the silver coated ET tubes. If you have, did you find that they decreased VAP?

I have done research on the silver coated tubes. The outcomes showed a statistical significant difference in decreasing V.A.P. However there was no statistical significant difference in amount of days that the pt's remained on the vent. Almost a moot point if the patients vent days don't change or if you can not show improvements in outcomes.
