I am an RN assigned to the VAP committee here at Geisinger Health Systems. We are in the process of starting a Pediatric VAP Bundle and would like to speak to any othe hospitals that have successfully initiated a Peds VAP bundle within their instituion. Thankyou

The Pediatric Affinity Group, which includes the National Initiative for Children's Healthcare Quality (NICHQ), NACHRI, CHCA, AAP and mentor hospitals, has been working to address the needs of the pediatric community as they relate to the 100K and 5 Million Lives campaign. In reference to your query on the VAP bundle, I would direct you to two sources.
First, the Pediatric Affinity Group has posted a pediatric supplement to the VAP bundle on the IHI website, the NICHQ website at www.nichq.org. [See http://www.nichq.org/NR/rdonlyres/8FD722C8-BBE3-4D31-869C-D901ADA27356/3613/VAPsupplementversionAug8th.pdf]
It is also posted on the NACHRI, CHCA and AAP websites. This supplement was developed by one of our mentor hospitals and posted last summer. We are in the process of reviewing and updating these supplements.
Also, I would direct your attention to an article recently published in Pediatric Clinics of North America, 53 (2006): 1231-1251 by Curley, M.A.Q, Schwalenstocker, E., Deshpande, J., Ganser, C.C., Bertoch, D., Brandon, J., and Kurtin, P. entitled Tailorig the IHI 100K Lives Campaign to Pediatric Settings: the Example of VAP.

Hello,
We are a NICU and are working on a bundle appropriate for that patient population. Does anyone have any information specific to the neonate?

Dear Beth,
Thanks for your question on the VAP bundle for the NICU. The Pediatric Affinity Group (NICHQ, NACHRI, CHCA, AAP and mentor hospitals) are very interested in this topic as well. Last year we posted a How-to-Guide Pediatric Supplement for VAP for the pediatric population but we did not develop one for the NICU. It is posted on the NICHQ website and the IHI website. Perhaps you can look at the existing supplement and supporting documents and if you develop one for the NICU we would like to post that as well. Thank you for your work on this topic.
