First, thank you for sharing your information.

I am wondering if the central line bundle has been introduced in Surgery. If you have, how did you address the mechanics of hand hygiene before and after insertion of the c.line by Anesthesia? I would appreciate suggestions.

Thank You,

We have concentrated on central lines that are inserted in the critical care unit, but of course the approach probably should apply to any central line being inserted. The risk of bacteremia surely outweighs other considerations.

Have you been encountering resistance to this from anesthesiologist? If so, what is the issue?

What is the most appropriate technique for handwashing prior to central line insertion? I noted Thomas Rainey's comment: “A quick scrub won’t do,” explains Rainey. “We need the operating-room version.” Is there any evidence/guideline available indicating this? Our infection control team has stated a 30 second handwashing technique is suitable.
