I am a urologist in practice. I use clippers on the abdomen for procedures. I do not like the way clippers effect the skin of the penis and scrotum. I have never had a significant infectious complication. As part of my 'art and craft' of surgery, as well as my mastery of the plastic operations upon the penis and scrotum, I believe that shaving gives a more optimal skin preparation for these procedures.

We are having an issue with hair removal in our institution. We use clippers most of the time. There are times when razors are used. We are working on removing all razors out of the OR. The clippers don't always keep a good charge. We've given supporting evidence to our surgeons and they want to do the right thimg. Any suggestions?
