Hello everyone
Just checking about the results from the tool. We have used this survey tool in two of our hospitals and the results have been around the 70s percentage. Is this thegeneral finding amongst most organisations today? Awaiting your feedback.
PS: Would love to hear from R Helmreich what results from ongoing surveys have been obtained from his hospitals?

We just completed the survey and, like you, our results were in the 70s. I've been looking for others results as well.

Hi
I am considering using this tool to get a base line measure to commence benchmarking in our acute trust in the UK & would be very interested to get any references from journals that state where this tool has been used & the results obtained to ensure this is a validated tool. Anyone know of any?
Personal experiences in use of the tool would also be very useful.
Thanks

We are an ambulatory medical group--just piloted the tool in a number of the departments. Overall score was also in the low 70's. Has anyone used another tool?

I am reviewing the spreadsheet tool that accompanies the survey. I would like to know whether it is possible to change the job categories to reflect your hospital's job classifications and still have the all the functionality of the tool (e.g graphs produced, etc.) Has anyone tried to do this? Any advice would be appreciated as soon as possible. Thanks.

Our hospital just completed a survey of staff on our safety culture, using this tool. We are fascinated with the findings. Our overall score was in the high 70's and the range for the departments invovled was 70-81. The different scores for each question were more important than the overall score. We are now getting ready to share the data with staff and get their input into analyzing the data, as well as their buy-in to developing improvements.

Hi Chrisitne-- hope this reply is not too late. We encountered the same issue and we did have to change the job categories or it would not make sense. We didn't encounter any problems with doing that, and our data was very interesting. What did you finally decide to do?

Does anyone have experience using the tool with nursing students or faculty? It is clear the tool would need to be revised. Does anyone have suggestions for tools that evaluate faculty/students knowledge, attittudes or beliefs re culture of safety? Thanks in advance for your time.

The tool was developed by researchers at the University of Texas specifically to measure the attitudes and perceptions of front line clinical staff. It was not specifically designed for students or faculty.
You want to contact the developers for suggestions. Their website is
http://www.uth.tmc.edu/schools/med/imed/patient_safety/index.htm
Primary contact would be Dr. Eric Thomas. You might also check with Dr. Bryan Sexton, who is now working at Johns Hopkins.
