Do you allow Chemotherapy to be given on Weekends? We are a community hospital with several Oncologists. We have limited skilled Chemo qualified nurses and pharmacist to cover weekends. Your response is appreciated.

As long as you can ensure that you have the same safeguards in place, chemotherapy can be ordered, prepared and administered on weekends.
We ensured that there was a chemo trained pharmacist and technician scheduled. Nursing, likewise, ensured that there was appropriate staffing.
We worked to get copies of orders on Friday in order to take advantage of the weekday staffing levels to check orders against protocols. My situation was different in that I was in an academic center with many investigational protocols. We did not accept chemo orders after 6:00 on weekdays unless for an emergency. Most treatment can be scheduled enough in advance to ensure that safeguards are in place.
