What glucometers are being used in your ICU's? How accurate are they compared to the laboratory?

We have implemented a Tight glycemic control protocol in our hospital, but are struggling with management of it on the med-surg units with 1:5 nurse patient ratios. Are there any facilities out there doing the same I could collaborate with?

Dear Sandra:
We have implemented an insulin drip protocol for use in the ICU with favorable results. We do run fixed rate insulin drips on med surg on occasion, but any patient needing hourly titration is managed in ICU. I am looking for some literature as to the safety of running a fixed rate insulin infusion on med surg. If you know of any, please let me know. Thanks!

Did anyone provide an insulin drip protocol, policy, or procedure? Also, can someone share their experience with staff education and training. I am looking for educational resources.

Did you ever get a glycemic control policy or procedure from anyone? I have been asked to get his done within the week. We have some insulin protocols, but would like input to newer ideas. Not all the docs like the ones we have. Thanks.
