Bronson Hospital took the knowledge that most adult learners (nurses) are "visual learners" and partnered with a local company to create an "Explainit" which visually shows Central Line Dressing Changes & other procedures related to a Central Line drawn out, step-by-step. I would be happy to share those with anyone who might be interested in making the Central Line Bundle "visual". Great idea. do you have any evidence looking at the impact of the posters? Did the project take long to complete and was the cost reasonable. Kaye Rolls NSW Intensive Care Coordination and Monitoring Unit. Rollsk@wahs.nsw.gov.au

Does anyone have information about chlorhexidine in a liquid form ie) purchasing it in bottles of chlorhexidine rather than the swabsticks? I am trouble finding any information on this. It would be easier to clean with the liquid chlorhexidine rather than opening the swabs across the sterile field.

When I worked as IV therapy nurse, I spoke directly with the manufacturer. I believe they do produce in bottles, like betadine. Just couldn't get the hospital to purchase it. Cost, as always.

My name is Gail Wilkes, andI am a clinical nursing educator at Boston Medical Center. We are currently reviewing the practice of blood sampling through PICC lines 4 Fr and larger in internal diameter. I am wondering whether your institution permits blood sampling, and if so, have you seen an increase in the incidence of infections. Also with the Power PICC have you seen an incidence in venous thrombosis. Please respond to gail.wilkes@bmc.org. Thank you very much.

Hi Kathy..... we used to use chlorohexidine multi pour bottles however our infection control department did not like the re-use of the bottles once opened.... we do use the 2% chlorohexidine / 70% alcohol swab sticks and we open them and set them on our sterile field using a forcep which is located on the top of our dressing trays. This forcep makes it very easy to open packages and set the supplies onto the tray aseptically. We really like using the sticks... they are very convenient

Hi Gail.... I am PICC nurse inserter at our facility and yes we do blood sampling from our 4 and 5 French PICCs ... however this is only done if venous access for blood sampling is difficult and it is only done by the PICC nurse inserters. This way we can prevent occlusion or tearing of the line.... keep our practice consistent and thus reduce line infections. The PICCs we use at our facility are the Bard Groshong 4 French single lumen PICC and the 5 French dual lumen PICC. The catheter is made of silicone and has the Groshong valve at the tip. We do not use the Power PICC at our facility yet but I would be interested the incidence of venous thrombosis. Thanks
