We are working with Lab and Respiratory to implement a rapid turnaround lactate level. Some questions have been posed by our Lab Manager regarding lactate levels. Our current method is a "send out" with a 4-6 hour turnaround time. We want to be sure the method we choose will give valid lactate results.
Does it matter if we analyze whole blood or serum?
Does it matter if we analyze arterial blood or venous?
If respiratory analyzes the specimen do they need plasma or can the specimen be whole blood?
