The statement on the IHI introductory 'blurb' implies that most staff who work in ICUs would 'cringe' at the thought of open visiting. This might be true for some countries, but not for all, and certainly not for the UK. Our ICU has had open visiting (24/7/365) since 1987, and so do most UK ICUs. Let's give credit to those units and systems which are patient and family friendly.
