IHI Statement on Texas
Some members of the IHI community have requested that we move the IHI Patient Safety Congress out of Texas and voiced concerns around the state’s political leadership, and laws that do not align with their values and the safety and well-being of all people.
Logistically, moving a large conference is a huge task with immense financial repercussions. But that is not the only reason to proceed with the event as planned. We will host the IHI Patient Safety Congress in Dallas, Texas to take a stand for our values. IHI’s mission is to improve health and health care worldwide, and that mission transcends politics. By continuing to host IHI Congress in Dallas, we will support local workers who host our community; empower those working to shape safe, equitable care for all; amplify our core values of love, courage, trust, and equity; and work with local partners in Texas who deal directly with repercussions from political decisions.
As we navigate the ever-changing situation with the COVID-19 pandemic, our team is committed to the safety of conference attendees, our staff, and employees at our host site, the Sheraton. We will be working closely to ensure enhanced safety protocols that include physical distancing and sanitizing, and we will be requiring proof of vaccination.
