Meet Me in the Great Outdoors

Meet Me in the Great Outdoors

Are you looking for an active and healthy alternative to conducting a meeting in the usual cold, dark conference room? The answer is right outside your window! I found that out when a recent check-in with a colleague produced what I call the “Walk and Talk.”

I needed to discuss a project with a colleague who doesn’t work in our Cambridge, MA, office. We didn’t need any PowerPoint slides or computer capabilities, so I suggested we do the meeting as a “Walk and Talk” and she agreed. The result? A successful meeting and energizing 55 minute walk. This type of meeting is a great way for employees to stay active during their work day.

A brief article from the Mayo Clinic offers several tips and discusses the benefits of walking such as:

·         Decreased low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol

·         Lower  blood pressure

·         Improved  mood

·         Weight management

The next time you have an opportunity to skip the conference room, lace up those sneakers and take your meeting out to the walking path instead.

What other non-conventional meeting settings have you tried? Did they work for you? Please share your experiences in the comments.
