The “Prepare for Your Surgery” brochure provides information to patients on questions to ask the doctor about their surgery, suggestions about skin care before surgery, instructions about wound care, tips for recognizing signs and symptoms of infections, and the importance of pain control.
Background
The tool was developed to give patients the necessary information about getting ready for surgery and tips about care after surgery. The MissouriPRO developed the brochure after reviewing standard preoperative and postoperative instructions from hospitals.
Directions
Give the brochure to patients prior to surgery. Identify the appropriate setting for instructing patients on how to use the brochure. The brochure may also be given to patients again after surgery.
