The chart sticker is designed to be utilized not only as a reminder of key clinical guidelines in the care of surgery patients within certain populations, but also to serve as a concurrent checklist during the patient's stay. The stickers address timing, selection, and duration for antimicrobial prophylaxis.
Background
Provider feedback and success from previous quality improvement projects in Arkansas utilizing chart stickers and reminders led to the development of the chart stickers for the Surgical Infection Prevention Project.
Directions
Utilize the sticker, at the provider's discretion, as a chart reminder or checklist. The sticker can be used to identify patients who are included in the improvement project population to help raise hospital staff awareness about care standards. Place the sticker in an obvious place on the chart. Some organizations place the sticker on a generic, colored form that states, "This chart has been identified as part of a current quality initiative for the following: ..."
