Utilization of the Rapid Response Team

Definition

Number of calls to the Rapid Response Team in a defined time period (weekly or monthly) to assess that the team is being utilized and to measure its effectiveness.

Goal
Goal: Increase the use of the Rapid Response Team over time.  (This is an organization-specific measure; it is not suggested to compare across organizations, so there is no absolute goal.)

Data Collection Plan

Determine the total number of calls to the Rapid Response Team.

  • Establish a process to identify all calls to the Rapid Response Team. One possible data collections strategy is as follows:

Each call to the Rapid Response Team should result in the completion of a documentation form or record (such as the Rapid Response Team Record). These records should be kept in a central location (paper log book, electronic record, etc.) and serve as the source of data.

  • Typically, data is collected in monthly increments but teams might find it useful initially to track Rapid Response Team calls on a weekly basis (i.e., period of one week, every week; measuring calls per week). Once your Rapid Response Team is well-established, teams can collect data monthly (i.e., period of one month, every month; measuring calls per month).
