The Risk of Quality Team Project Failure Index (RTFI) helps managers understand factors that can increase their teams' likelihood of success. This tool was developed for the following purposes:
- To educate managers about the conditions (processes and structures) they need to have in place to give a quality project team the greatest chance of success, and to draw attention to their role in ensuring this success.
- To help teams recognize and get some of the necessary conditions they need for success, and to pay attention to factors external to the teams' processes which are necessary.
Limitations: The tool has not been validated and it is not known to what extent it accurately predicts success and failure in different situations. Some factors will be more important than others depending on how success is defined and the situation.
Background
The RTFI tool was developed from a review of the literature and from empirical research into team success and failure in Norway and Zambia, where similar factors were found to be associated with success.
