In the Healthcare Research and Quality Act of 1999 (Public Law 106-129), Congress mandated that the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) produce an annual report on health care quality in the United States beginning in fiscal year 2003. This NHQR report, a collaborative effort among the agencies of the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), will include a broad set of performance measures that will be used to monitor the Nation’s progress toward improved health care quality.
