Change the Work Environment:
Focus on Core Processes and Purpose

Why are we doing all of the activities that go on in the organization? Which are the activities that are directly related to the purpose of the organization (the core processes)? Core processes can also be characterized as those activities providing value directly to external customers. To reduce costs, consider reductions in activities that are not part of the core processes.

Examples of Tests of this Change

A health care organization used an expensive home monitor to test for pre-term labor. But when the condition was diagnosed, the organization had no treatment for the condition. It eliminated the use of the monitor until a productive use could be found for the test results.
