Implement Comprehensive Women’s Health Care for HIV-Infected Women:
Provide Services for Women with Children
Women must bring their children to their gynecology (GYN)appointments for various reasons, including financial necessity, limited child care options, or language barriers. Depending on the age of the children and cultural backgrounds of the family, the presence of children with the mother during intake and examinations can be very embarrassing to both mother and children. A number of programs use the suggestions offered below improve women’s health care options for mothers.
Tips
  • Consider offering on-site child care through cooperative linkages with local organizations. Child care availability can help women to talk freely about their health during their appointments.
  • Co-locate GYN services and pediatric services so that women can obtain care for their children and themselves under one roof. The availability of on-site pediatric services can also help attract women into care.
