Decision Support

Effective HIV/AIDS programs use explicit, current guidelines or protocols. Reminders, flow sheets/progress notes, provider education materials and sessions, appropriate input and collaborative support from relevant medical specialties, and patient participation are all part of a process to implement current guidelines in the clinical setting. Given the rapid changes in resistance patterns and other factors affecting the management of HIV/AIDS, keeping updated on the most recent guidelines is especially important for providers caring for patients with this disease.
