The Trigger Point Guidelines were developed for Scottsdale Healthcare in an effort to standardize actions dependent upon hospital bed availability.

The green, yellow, and red lights indicated at the bottom of the guidelines correspond with the color of lights that are displayed at multiple sites. The lights are activated by bed control personnel, and are intended as a visual aid to physicians and staff regarding the general state of bed availability.

This tool was developed as part of a system-wide project to improve the efficiency of the flow of patients from the emergency room to the inpatient areas. It is related to a system of green, yellow, and red lights at our ports of entry indicating the level of bed capacity and what actions should be taken at that time.
