Appropriate Treatment with Anti-Inflammatory Medication


Definition
Formula: The number of patients with a National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) classification of persistent asthma who are on anti-inflammatory medication, divided by the number of patients with an NHLBI classification of persistent asthma. Multiply the result by 100 to express as a percentage.

Goal

Increase the percentage of patients with persistent asthma who are on anti-inflammatory medication to 95 percent.


Data Collection Plan
On the last workday of each month, collect data from the flow sheet/chart information or from the patient registry. Count the number of patients with an NHLBI classification of persistent asthma at last contact who are on anti-inflammatory medications; and count the total number of patients with an NHLBI classification of persistent asthma at last contact.
