This cross-sectional survey found widespread under use of controllers. Risk factors for under use include lower parental education and racial minority. Action plans and outpatient care appeared to be protective.

The authors of this article contend that incorrect use of asthma medication is common among adults. Overuse of inhaled beta-agonists may be caused by symptom severity. Underuse of corticosteroids is associated with lower symptom severity.
