"The Patient Safety Officer Executive Development Program in Boston, admirably designed, hosted and executed, was the most intense, extensive, and exciting learning experience of my career and I am proud to have been a participant and look forward to many productive years of contributing to the safety of our patients and the differentiation of our organizations."

Patient Safety Officers can’t take years to get up to speed. The immediate imperative for patient safety demands that they act quickly and sensibly. They need the skills NOW to create, implement, and maintain a vigorous and focused patient safety program.
To support these leaders, IHI has created the Patient Safety Officer Executive Development Program, an intensive eight-day program led by international experts in patient safety. These experts, many of whom have established benchmark patient safety programs in their own organizations and worked with organizations all over the world, will work with participants to develop detailed, customized patient safety strategies and implementation plans.
Ensuring patient safety requires high-level leadership and a comprehensive strategy based on proven techniques. This one-of-a-kind program will enable Patient Safety Officers and others responsible for safety to implement powerful and effective patient safety programs that reflect the highest levels of rigor and excellence for their organization.
Who Should Attend
This demanding eight-day program is for:
- Dedicated Patient Safety Officers
- Executives
- Individuals moving into a safety oversight role
- QI professionals
- Risk Managers
- Medical Directors
Each participant is expected to be joined for the final two days of the program by the Chief Executive Officer from his or her organization. This time will serve as an opportunity for the CEO to learn about the scope of the initiatives and to collaborate on strategy. A strong partnership between the safety leader and the CEO is critical to the successful development and implementation of an effective patient safety program.
International participants are encouraged to apply. Examples will be drawn from initiatives in a variety of countries and have proven effective in both the United States and internationally.
