James Conway, MS, Senior Vice President, Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI), was Senior Fellow at IHI from 2005-2006. From 1995-2005, he served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Prior to joining Dana-Farber, he had a 27-year career at Children's Hospital, Boston, in radiology administration, finance, and as assistant hospital director for patient care services. His areas of expertise and interest include executive leadership, patient safety, change management, and patient-/family-centered care. He is a member of the IOM Committee on Identifying and Preventing Medication Errors, an Advisor to the Massachusetts Coalition for the Prevention of Medical Errors, a Distinguished Advisor to the National Patient Safety Foundation, and a member of the Joint Commission Sentinel Event Alert Advisory Group.
James E. Orlikoff is President of Orlikoff & Associates, Inc., a consulting firm specializing in health care governance and leadership, quality, strategy, organizational development, and risk management. He is the National Advisor on Governance and Leadership to the American Hospital Association and Health Forum, and Senior Consultant to the Center for Healthcare Governance. Mr. Orlikoff has been involved in quality and governance issues for over 25 years, consulting with hospitals in six countries and working with hospital and system governing boards to strengthen their overall effectiveness and oversight of quality and patient safety. Author of the book The Board's Role in Quality Care: A Practical Guide for Hospital Trustees, he has written 15 books and over 100 articles. Mr. Orlikoff has served on hospital, college, and civic boards. He is currently a member of the Virginia Mason Health System board and chair of its Governance Committee.
James L. Reinertsen, MD, President, The Reinertsen Group, is also Senior Fellow at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI), directing IHI's Executive Quality Academy and working with senior executive teams in Pursuing Perfection and other IHI initiatives. Dr. Reinertsen has 15 years of experience as a CEO and 20 years as a practicing physician. His leadership work has focused on quality improvement, leadership development, and innovative market design. He is co-author of the book Ten Powerful Ideas for Improving Patient Care.
