You may apply for a California HealthCare Foundation stipend or scholarship to attend the Fall 2005 Breakthrough Series College session in exchange for participation in the California Improvement Network. The network seeks to strengthen, coordinate and expand improvement programs across the state. This intensive training opportunity is designed to expand the capacity for improvement efforts across California.
The California Improvement Network is comprised of individuals and organizations interested in improving the quality of health care by sharing ideas and supporting effective change. This network is being launched by the California HealthCare Foundation, as part of its efforts to improve chronic disease care for Californians.
The CIN seeks to strengthen, coordinate and expand improvement programs across the state. More specifically, it will:
- Coordinate central resources for improvement programs across California
- Provide expert consultation and support by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, the MacColl Institute, and other national/international improvement advisors
- Foster sharing of tools, experience, resources among the participants through teleconferences and workshops focused on specific topics of interest and challenges in the field
Stipend and Scholarship recipients would be required to actively share experiences and support others in improvement activities in California during the college session (one year) and for one year following.
- Stipends would cover 50% of fees
- Participants from safety net organizations (i.e., public hospitals, community clinics) may apply for scholarships to cover up to 100% of fees
- Travel expenses will not be covered
CHCF will fund as many qualified applications as possible, but will seek to support a range of geographic and institutional representatives. Due to limited funds, we encourage organizations to submit no more than two stipend or scholarship applications. Team members of awardees will be eligible for the reduced additional participant rate offered by IHI.
Applications are due by September 30, 2005, and applicants will be notified of their award status by October 7, 2005. Notifcation will come directly from CHCF.
