What is the Passport membership?
Passport is IHI’s new easy-access, membership program. Through Passport, your hospital can have access to all of the remote learning opportunities IHI has to offer in support of the Improvement Map, including all Expeditions, exclusive on-demand tools and resources, and members-only activities.
Fees:
The fee for Passport membership is $5,000 per year. Hospitals with fewer than 50 beds and members of the National Association of Public Hospitals are eligible to receive a discounted rate of $2,500 per year.
What do I get with the Passport membership?
- Unlimited Expeditions: The opportunity to join as many Expeditions during the membership period as you choose. Expeditions are topic-specific improvement programs, lasting two to four months, designed to help frontline teams make rapid change in a key component of the Improvement Map. IHI will be offering (on average) one Expedition per month. As a Passport member, your hospital and every staff member will have access to all Expeditions.
- Exclusive On-Demand Tools and Resources: Podcasts, videos, and presentation materials providing deep content support on key processes of the Improvement Map.
- Members-Only Activities: Valued options such as quarterly support and troubleshooting calls, access to affinity groups and work groups, and direct access to faculty support.
What is an Expedition?
Expeditions are topic-specific and action-focused programs, lasting two to four months, designed to help frontline teams make rapid improvements in a key component of the Improvement Map. IHI will be offering (on average) one Expedition per month. Expeditions can be joined as part of Passport membership or on an “à la carte” basis.

When does my Passport membership begin?
Your passport membership is activated within one hour after registering; you will receive a confirmation email verifying that you registered successfully. If you are not able to access the Passport members-only pages within one hour after registering, please call 617-301-4800 or email ImprovementMap@ihi.org.
When does my Passport membership expire?
Passport membership is good for one year from the date you enroll. All memberships expire on the first of the month. Organizations that enroll before the 15th of the month (e.g., August 2, 2009) will be given access to Passport membership until the last day of the previous month the following year (e.g., July 31, 2010). Organizations that enroll after the 15th of the month (e.g., August 19, 2009) will be given access to Passport membership until the last day of the next month the following year (e.g., August 31, 2010).
Is Passport an individual membership?
No. Passport membership provides access to all the tools and resources, web and call series, and other member benefits to all staff within your organization.
