During the 100,000 Lives and 5 Million Lives Campaigns, health care providers told IHI they wanted help making sense of the many complex and competing demands hospitals face. In response, IHI is developing the Improvement Map, an online tool that distills the best knowledge available on the key process improvements that will lead to better outcomes for patients.
Take a sneak peek at the Improvement Map tool that will be available free of charge starting in September 2009.

The WHO Surgical Safety Checklist
Listen to a podcast to learn about strategies to move from testing the WHO Surgical Safety Checklist to implementation.
Have you told IHI about your use of the WHO Surgical Safety Checklist (or an adaptation of it)? Have you moved from testing to implementation? To be included on the map that tracks Checklist activity nationwide, complete the newly updated five-minute survey.
Consult with a Surgical Safety Checklist Mentor Hospital for tips on testing and implementing the Checklist.
Looking for adaptations of the WHO Surgical Safety Checklist? Go to the Safesurg.org website.
WHO Surgical Safety Checklist testing across the US

Click on the map to see the hospitals that have reported they have tested, are rolling out, or have fully implemented the WHO Surgical Safety Checklist. To be included on the map, complete the newly updated survey.
Congratulations on helping to dramatically shorten the time (reportedly an average of 17 years) between the publication of a well-researched advancement and when patients reap the benefits!
As hospitals across the US continue to test and implement the Checklist, IHI will track this progress on the Surgical Safety Checklist Progress page.
Already using a surgical checklist? Consult the Frequently Asked Questions about the WHO Surgical Safety Checklist and find out if it meets the goals of the WHO Surgical Safety Checklist. Review Guidelines for making modifications to the WHO Surgical Safety Checklist.
View the brief video clip of a surgical checklist being used on the TV show "ER."
