Project Aim

To increase process reliability relative to identifying, screening, and monitoring infants at high risk for hypoglycemia by RNs while eliminating unnecessary newborn blood glucose screening and monitoring.

Improvement Opportunities

Newborns with high risk potential for hypoglycemia are identified, screened, and receive reliable follow-up at standard intervals and referral when necessary as defined by protocol 100% of the time. 'Unnecessary' blood glucose screening and monitoring of 'appropriate for gestational age' infants without other risk factors is eliminated. RN identification of SGA, AGA, and LGA newborns meets standard 100%.
