  Schedule of Events

The National Forum will begin on Monday, December 8, and continue through Thursday, December 11.


Monday, December 8, and Tuesday, December 9: The National Forum offers Learning Labs and Minicourses, which are extended, highly interactive sessions. Learning Labs last for a half-day, while Minicourses are full-day sessions.  

 

Wednesday, December 10, and Thursday, December 11: The two-day General Conference features four keynote presentations, more than 100 workshops, a full resource Exhibition Hall, the National Forum Bookstore, quality improvement storyboards, and numerous opportunities for networking.



Schedule of Student-Centered Events


Tuesday, December 9
  

9:00 AM – 4:00 PM
The National Forum Clarion Case Study Competition, hosted by the University of Minnesota and the IHI Open School for Health Professions, is a free interprofessional team competition for health professions students to collaborate on creating a simple root cause analysis of a sentinel event with recommended changes.  There is no preparation required, students will be given time in the morning to review the case study to determine the root cause analysis and make recommendations.  Each group will be assigned a 15-minute time slot in the afternoon to present their case study analysis to a panel of interprofessional expert judges. The top three winners of this competition will receive prizes. How to participate: When registering for the Forum, enter the following code into the ‘Add Session by Code:’ box at the top of the screen: CCSC. 


8:30 AM – 4:00 PM
The Scientific Symposium features rapid-fire presentations of peer-reviewed papers, with an afternoon poster session. Health professions students can attend at no cost. How to participate:  To register for this session, enter the following code into the ‘Add Session by Code:’ box at the top of the screen: S14.


5:30 PM – 6:00 PM
The National Forum Clarion Case Study Competition Results will be announced and the top three winners of the competition will be presented with prizes during this time.


6:00 PM – 9:00 PM
The Student Forum Orientation and Reception provides helpful information on navigating through the National Forum. Students attending the Orientation will be matched with a National Forum mentor who will help make their experience even more valuable. Students and mentors will have time to network during the reception from 8:00 PM–9:00 PM. How to participate: When registering, select 'Student Forum Orientation' from the list of National Forum Orientation Sessions. Because this time will be extremely valuable to your Forum experience, we ask you attend.


Wednesday, December 10         

12:30 PM – 1:30 PM
Attend the IHI Open School for Health Professions Informational Lunch to learn about IHI’s newest initiative. Click here for more information about the IHI Open School.


4:30 PM – 6:30 PM
The Posterboard Reception provides students with an opportunity to present a posterboard to conference attendees and participate in the student posterboard competition with a chance to win prizes as well as possible publishing opportunities. Proposals are due by November 28th. For more information, visit the "Calls for Proposals" tab.

Additional Opportunities

Unwind at the student lounge where students can eat lunch, debrief about the day, and use wireless Internet access.


Networking Opportunities:

  • Professional―In addition to the learning you’ll be exposed to and individuals you’ll meet during the sessions, National Forum mentors will facilitate a small group daily debrief to help students reflect on their experiences.
  • Social―Attend receptions and other student-centered National Forum events to establish connections with other attendees.
  • Virtual―During and after the Forum, IHI’s Open School for Health Professions initiative and Facebook Community can help you stay connected.

For health professions students new to quality improvement or new to the National Forum, we’ve selected sessions across a wide spectrum of topics and disciplines that will accelerate your capacity for quality improvement. In addition to this Student Track, the Fundamentals Program is also appropriate for those new to the National Forum as it highlights sessions that offer helpful ideas and tools for getting started in quality improvement.
