  Faculty

Consistent with the IHI’s policy, faculty for this program are expected to disclose at the beginning of their presentation(s), any economic or other personal interests that create, or may be perceived as creating, a conflict related to the material discussed.  The intent of this disclosure is not to prevent a speaker with a significant financial or other relationship from making a presentation, but rather to provide listeners with information on which they can make their own judgments.

Unless otherwise noted below, each presenter provided full disclosure information, does not intend to discuss an unapproved/investigative use of a commercial product/device, and has no significant financial relationship(s) to disclose. If unapproved uses of products are discussed, presenters are expected to disclose this to participants.

William C.  Rupp, MD, currently works part-time with Luther Midelfort–Mayo Clinic and is a faculty member at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement. He spent 20 years at Luther Midelfort, serving as President and CEO for 11 years. Previously he was President and CEO of Immanuel St. Joseph's, part of the Mayo Health System, for five years. Dr. Rupp has helped physician organizations, hospitals, and health systems develop shared organizational vision, strengthen leadership and governance, accelerate the pace of change, and improve patient safety. He was a member of the Institute of Medicine team that wrote the report, Keeping Patients Safe: Transforming the Work Environment of Nurses.

Alva W. Whitehead, MD, is Vice President of Medical Services at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence, South Carolina. Following a private practice of Internal Medicine for twenty five years he assumed the administrative role of VPMS and has been both a participant and observer of a physician led cultural change resulting in greater physician engagement in quality initiatives. His perspective reveals that a community hospital in a suburban area can deliver on promises to improve outcomes. McLeod has been intimately involved with IHI for many years and was the recipient of one of the Robert Wood Johnson's Pursuing Perfection grants.
