Creating High-Performance Teams
Team effectiveness is a characteristic of all successful improvement teams. Improvement requires change, and high-performing teams know how to work effectively together to create the change needed as quickly as possible.
Bringing a group of people together—no matter how committed they are to the systems changes needed—requires change on the part of the individuals as well. What makes a group of people become a team? What is required of each member of that group to transform into a high-performing team member?
Jump start your group into becoming a team by attending a one-day workshop on creating effective teams, offered prior to the first Learning Sessions:
Wednesday, September 22* 8 AM - 5 PM Marriott Copley Hotel in Boston, MA
*This is the day prior to the first Learning Sessions of the “Reducing Complications from Ventilators and Central Lines in the ICU” and “Reducing High-Hazard Adverse Drug Events” Breakthrough Series Collaboratives.
Wednesday, October 27* 8 AM – 5 PM Gaylord Palms Hotel in Kissimmee, FL
*This is the day prior to the first Learning Sessions of the “Improving Access and Efficiency in Primary Care” and “Reducing Surgical Site Infections” Breakthrough Series Collaboratives.
Consider sending your group to this workshop if:
- The group includes representative of a cross-section of your work processes who have never worked together directly.
- The team leader has excellent content knowledge but has not led an improvement team.
- Team development skills are not routinely offered or readily available to the team in your organization.
- The group works together routinely and you want to invest in getting the team off to a great start to ensure they take full advantage of the Collaborative to achieve breakthrough performance.
Participants will be able to:
- Return to their home teams with tools to accelerate their development as a team.
- Organize and lead improvement teams.
- Avoid common team pitfalls to performance.
This course will enhance your Collaborative experience by ensuring your team has a common approach to improvement. This strong foundation is guaranteed to accelerate your team’s implementation of effective changes. Please bring your team’s Collaborative "Aim Statement" (which your IHI Director will help you develop during the prework phase) to this session.
